Louisa and Bill Christie met here at the Shawnee Senior Center and married a short time later.
We take nothing for granted and end each C&W afternoon with the gospel song “Fly Away”…. then we all meet again!
We offer Tai Chi classes onsite Tuesday & Thursday mornings, 8:30-9:30am. We also offer classes in Asher & Meeker as a part of our Health Promotions Grant thru COEDD-AAA and Avedis Foundation.
Our class is growing with persons of all levels of fitness participating. Chairs can be implemented for students in need of additional support. If that’s you – you’re not alone! Come join us!
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2:30pm, the Storytime Band kicks out some amazing C&W tunes. There’s always room for more dancers!
Cecil was one of Shawnee’s formidably focused volunteers! Many organizations were recipients of his kind generosity. Husband, Father, Soldier, Author, Politician, Volunteer – Cecil was a WWII survivor with so many stories to tell.
First Tuesdays are the best – with Diamond K Kiwanis members holding their monthly bake sale. All home-baked goodies. Yummy!!!
Tammy schedules appointments monthly for seniors who would like to receive massages on-site.
Our reception desk is staffed with volunteers who work morning or afternoon shifts. We are so lucky to have this wonderful group of people.
Most of our participants are Veterans or were married to one. We have over 200 photos on our Veterans Wall. People who come here and relatives share a space of honor in this building.
We do an annual Health-related Fair aka Expo to highlight offerings available in Shawnee.

We frequently offer educational or entertaining programs for our participants to enjoy. Every once in a while we even throw in a politician just to see what they’re doing for seniors!

Area Agency on Aging is our primary funder for our Senior Fitness Program thru a Health Promotion grant.
Shawnee Mills provides their famous “Peppered Gravy” mix and flour for homemade biscuits made by Karen Trevino. Yummm! Yummm!
You haven’t lived until you’ve had a massage from Tammy Cotton.
We are frequently gifted with an assortment of donuts from Ma Beasley’s Daylight Donuts in Tecumseh. Cake, glazed, chocolate, sprinkles, coconut topped, donut holes… you name it!
Our goal is to provide health related, civic and recreational programs and services, promote volunteerism, and provide social interaction for persons 50 years of age and older. To meet those goals we offer crafts, ceramics, painting, quilting, line dancing, aerobics, yoga, bridge, dominoes, pool, card games, Bingo, AARP Defensive Driving, gospel singing, as well as live music and dancing which is held 10 times a month. Our health-related services include regular blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, flu shots, a weekly nutrition program, Diabetic Foot Clinic, direction to a wide offering of other services. We also provide informational seminars on a full range of topics, educational and entertaining.
